The Gilt Club and Restaurant

Interactive Design

The Gilt Club was an upscale restaurant in Portland, OR that specialized in a rotating, seasonal food and drink menus. One of the first objectives for the website was to really showcase the amount of work the owner of the Gilt Club had put into remodeling the space. On numerous occasions, one could walk by as both the owner had his wife were personally putting ‘sweat equity’ into their new venture. They did a fantastic job of adding a touch of elegance to the neighborhood. The website design was done using Flash to create movement as well as user interaction. The concept was to combine rotating panels to give not only the sense of a door opening into the establishment but also to imply the rotation of the seasonal menu. The color scheme was devised to emulate the decor of the restaurant.

Fun Fact - A scene in the first episode of the TV show 'Portlandia' was filmed at the Gilt Club. 'Colin the Chicken' was the sketch where Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein ask about if the chicken they are ordering is local.
